The Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino
The Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino, opened in December, 2016, was the first, ground-up casino in Las Vegas designed to emulate an elegant and authentic Asian cultural and gaming experience. Waking State Design was hired by architects, Ed Vance & Associates, to create all of the exterior, interior and parking garage wayfinding elements and signage designs for the project.
Integrated within our Asian-inspired Art Deco designs, are auspicious symbols and color design invoking wealth and well-being to Chinese and Asian cultures in general, contributing to an overall auspicious environment.
All signs are ADA compliant and are in both Chinese and English languages.
Feng Shui master Lin Huang at Qi Gallery, consultant to Ed Vance & Associates Architects, approved all signage elements and color palettes for cultural authenticity and auspiciousness.
Asian Art Deco
Asian Art Deco informed our designs throughout. The streamlined elegance of the lettering forms in both English and Chinese promoted signage legibility within this very stimulating environment full of colors, people, and sounds.
Auspicious Symbols
We researched the importance of auspicious motifs in Chinese and other Asian cultures to create these symbols used throughout our signage designs and wayfinding system. Depicted in a similarly auspicious, rich color palette of golds, reds and purples, these symbolic forms invoke fortune and good luck and are understood by Chinese nationals as well as those of Chinese descent living in the U.S.
Auspicious Motifs (left to right): coins, dragon, bat, cloud, goldfish, phoenix, horse, golden rings, peony.

Original Chinese calligraphy was commissioned for the Emerald Room sign, designating the high limit gaming area.
Fretwork
The balance of positive and negative space created by geometric fretwork design
has had a calming presence in Chinese architecture and furniture over the centuries. WSD created Asian-inspired fretwork panels which we integrated into directional and room number signage throughout the Lucky Dragon Hotel. This dovetails with interior details designed by Lee Cagley & Associates.
